Obituaries: Arnold Jay Briggs(1928-2007)

Arnold Jay Briggs born October 30, 1928 to Arlie E. Briggs and Mildred L. (Castner) Briggs in Bandon, Ore., died on November 13, 2007 in Crescent City.

Arnie was a commercial fisherman where he was a partner of the Fishing Vessel "The Sea" and had worked on the Fishing Vessel "The Garnet." He previously was a log truck driver who was a semi truck long line driver for many years.

He returned to Del Norte County, and with his father Arlie and brother Buzz, knitted crab pots for the commercial fleet. Arnie, was an avid bowler and loved to golf.

He was married to Betty Spencer in 1946. They had two children, Sandy and Kathy. In 1952 he married Patsy Lambrecht and they had four children, Steve, Ardis, Karen and Sherry. In 1964 he married Margene Hoge.

He is survived by his six children: Sandy French of Roseville, Kathy Roberts of Crescent City, Stephen Briggs of Springfield, Ore., Ardis Guglielmo of Lafayette, Karen Marting of Newport Beach, and Sherry Jones of Vida, Ore.; brother Norman Buzz Briggs and sister Arleta Johnson both of Crescent City; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Mr. Briggs is also survived by long time companion Barbara Wallace of Crescent City.

He was preceded in death by his brother Robert "Bobby" Briggs and his parents Arlie and Mildred Briggs.

Private services have been held with private internment at the IOOF Cemetery in Grants Pass, Ore.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
