Bernard "Ben" Robert Hutzell
Bernard "Ben" Robert Hutzell died peacefully at his home in Crescent City May 10, 2007. He was 89 years old.
He was born October 12, 1917, in Mott, N.D.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a sergeant in World War II in Europe and the Asiatic Pacific.
His post-military career included working for Hammond Lumber Company and PG & E in Eureka operating and repairing heavy equipment. He worked later as a Service Operator for American Potato Company for 18 years until retirement.
He lived in Eureka until moving to Crescent City in 2000 to live near his brother, Gale Hutzell.
Bernard's hobbies and interests included bowling, gardening and eating fried potatoes and onions.
He was a wealth of information and family history for the Hutzell family, and could recall almost every name of the family members and friends pictured in old black and white photos.
He is survived by his brother, Gale Warren Hutzell.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. May 14 at Sanders Chapel, 1835 E. Street, in Eureka, CA. A viewing precedes the service at 10 a.m.
