Dorothy Nuszkiewicz was a 56-year resident of Crescent City. She was born on July 1, 1925, in Armstrong Creek, Wis., and raised there with her four siblings who have preceded her in death; Mae, Bill, George and Shirley.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 happily married years, Stanley (Red) Nuszkiewicz. They made their home and shared their life together in Crescent City, raising their family.
Dorothy was actively involved in St. Joseph Catholic parish and her community. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America as well as a member of American Business Women’s Association, Emblem Club, Runeberg Lodge #132 and the Plus 40 Club. She served as a volunteer and avid supporter of St. Vincent De Paul since its inception in 1982. She also volunteered at Pine Grove School and as PTA President and other board positions over the years at her children’s schools.
They raised eight children and are survived by Thomas Nuszkiewicz
(Janet), Linda Langlois (David), Gerald Nuszkiewicz, all residents of
Crescent City, Karen Inokuchi (Mike) of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Gail
Hemmingsen (Jeff) of Chico, Calif., Robert Nuszkiewicz (Jan) of Couer
d’Alene, Idaho, Diane Clausen (Casey) of Portland Ore., and Denise Huff
(Shane) of Roseville, Calif., Dottie Nuszkierwicz of Crescent City.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Michelle Blum, Timothy and
Jon Nuszkiewicz, James, Steven and Bill Langlois, Trisha Davenport,
Alisa, Douglas and Gary Hemmingsen, Chad and Jillian Clausen, Megan and
Weston Huff.
She has 11 great-grand children: Brian, Kevin and Matthew Blum, Kaia
and Ryan Langlois, Barrett and Gracie Langlois, Marli and Jaden
Davenport, Morgan and Logan Langlois.
Dorothy was passionate about reading. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests contributions be made to the Del Norte County Library for
funding new books for the community.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 10, from 2-4 p.m. at Wier’s
Mortuary Chapel with a Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Sunday night.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church on
Monday, April 11, at 10 a.m. with private interment at St. Joseph
Catholic Cemetery. Fellowship will follow immediately after services at
St. Joseph Parish.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of
Crescent City.
