Douglas Gaines was born to Robert and Vaudie Gaines in Merced, Calif., on May 22, 1928.
He passed away on July 7, 2011.
Doug is survived by his wife, Debi, of 36 years; brothers Pat and Jess Gaines; sisters Barbara and Dottie; daughters Sherri, Debbie, Amy and Mindy; and grandson Douglas. Doug left behind 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Doug worked and retired as an iron worker for over 30 years in the
Western U.S., Pakistan, Japan and several other countries. Doug also
served in the Merchant Marines and the Army, fighting in the Korean War.
Doug had many talents including carpentry, carving, sculpting and
drawing. His real passion was for coaching youth football and wrestling,
where he was known for his no-nonsense approach tempered with kindness.
He was loved and respected by all ages.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Vaudie Gaines,
brothers Robert and Lloyd Gaines, and daughter Dianna.
There will be no services at Doug’s request. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to Del Norte Youth Football, PO Box 1272, Crescent
City, CA 95531.
