Obituaries: Douglas Deauwayne McCarty (Sept. 24, 1952 – April. 20, 2011) |
Former Grants Pass resident Douglas Deauwayne McCarty, 58, passed away on April 20, 2011, in Fort Dick, following a long illness. He was born in Fresno, Calif., in 1952 to Tommie Ann (Ivy) and William Douglas McCarty. Douglas was an avid falconer and professional mushroom grower. He was very active with “Safe Access Now” in Del Norte County and was tireless in his efforts to promote and protect marijuana. Doug was also active with several law enforcement agencies in both California and Oregon. Douglas met his future wife, Andrea Welch in Rogue River. Together they ran Klamath Falls Mushroom farm until it closed in the mid-80s. They were married and moved back to Grants Pass. Doug was preceded in death by his father William and brother Danny. He loved spending time with his daughters, singin’ oldies on the way to the coast, mushrooming, hunting, fishing, crabbing, falconry and helping people access and benefit from medical marijuana. He is survived by his two daughters Heather A. of Portland, Ore., Erin C. of Grants Pass, Ore.; mother Tommie Ann of Grants Pass, Ore.; and his three brothers Wayland of Grants Pass, Ore., Daryl of Longview, Wash., and Shane of California. Donations to the family can be made out to Hull & Hull Funeral Directors in Grants Pass, Ore.
