Obituaries: Edward John Reidel, Sr. (1925-2007)

Edward John Reidel, Sr., 81, died May 4 in Crescent City.

He was born July 27, 1925, in Medford, Ore., and was a 73-year resident of Del Norte County who attended high school in Oregon.

Ed was employed in the timber industry as a log truck driver by Simpson Timber Company. He was a member of the Teamster's Union and served as shop steward.

During his retirement he enjoyed working with heavy equipment and participating with the Relay for Life.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Irene Reidel of Crescent City; his son Edward Jr. (Connie) Reidel, of Crescent City; his brother, Kenneth Ronjoin of Nevada; and sister, Darlene Shuler of Eureka.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christee Reidel of Arcata, Ed Reidel III of Crescent City, Brea Jackson of Montana, Rebecca Barton of Eugene, Ore., Debbie Dumas of Grants Pass, Ore. and Nancy Chiappetta of Aylett, Va.; and his close friends, Muriel and Nicole Kaye, and Preston Nunez of Crescent City; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Reidel, Mike Ronjoin Jr. and Ivan Ronjoin.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wier's Mortuary Chapel, with interment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Crescent City.

The family requests contributions be made to the Relay for Life, 1301 Northcrest Drive, Crescent City, Calif., 95531.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel.
