Edward Joseph Lopez, Jr. passed away on Oct. 20, 2007 in Smith River. He was born on July 27, 1933 in Crescent City, making him a lifelong resident of Del Norte County.
Mr. Lopez was a member of the Tolowa Tribe. He was proud of his family heritage and performed traditional Tolowa dances. He served during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper. Some of the activities that Edward loved were fishing, playing pool and horseshoes and collecting agates.
Mr. Lopez is survived by his daughters Dusty Lopez of Crescent City, Caroleen Lopez of Crescent City, Shelly Dawn Pulsifer of Lacy, Wash., and Natasha Lopez of Smith River; sons Edward Joseph Lopez III of Tacoma, Wash., and Danny Joseph Lopez of Loleta; brother Frank "Super" Lopez of Monterey Park; nephew Russell Lopez of Smith River; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lena Lopez, daughter Denise Lopez and numerous siblings.
A viewing will be held at Wier's Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, Oct. 25 from 9-5 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. at Wier's Mortuary Chapel.
Interment will follow at the Howonquet Indian Cemetery in Smith River, with fellowship following at the Howonquet Indian Community Hall in Smith River.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
