Estanislada "Tania" Torres, passed away July 30, 2008, at UCSF/Moffitt Hospital in San Francisco, after suffering a brain aneurysm.
Tania was born Sept. 11, 1969, in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. She came to the United States at the age of 5 and grew up in Venice Beach. Her family moved from Southern Cali-fornia to Del Norte County in 1988 and since then she had lived and worked in Del Norte County.
Tania was well-known in the community, especially in the field of education. Tania worked at Smith River and Redwood schools. Tania was committed and passionate about working with children and families, she touched many lives and was a well respected community member.
Surviving are her children, Jessica M. Rodriguez, Jose Luis Rodriguez and Diana Rodriguez; her husband Jose G. Rodriguez of Fort Dick; her parents Cecilia and Consolacion Torres of Brookings; sister Noemi Hernandez and husband Josue Hernandez of Wilder, Idaho; brothers, Filemon Torres of Tacoma, Wash., Jaime Torres and wife Stacey Torres of Crescent City, David Torres and wife Laura Garcia of Nampa, Idaho; and in-laws Pedro and Ma Guadalupe Rodriguez of Medford, Ore. She is also survived by numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be today from 2 to 7 p.m. at Wier's Mortuary Chapel. On Wednesday, there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and Mass in celebration of her life beginning at 5 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Crescent City with Father Frank Epperson officiating.
Following the Mass there will be a reception in memory of Tania in the St. Joseph Parish Hall.
