Fawn Morris went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 20, 2011. She will be back home with her husband, C. Allan Morris, her son Michael L. Morris, along with numerous other family members who will all be there to greet and welcome her home.
Fawn Eloise Mildred Williams Morris was born to Harry and Ethel Williams on September 2, 1929, at the General Hospital in Eureka. She had five siblings, two sisters Dorothy and Vivian along with three brothers Chuck, Timm and Juke.
For many generations her family owned and operated Dad’s Camp at the mouth of the Klamath River, where she met many of her lifelong friends. The family then moved to Crescent City in 1943. Fawn attended local grade schools and was a 1947 graduate of Del Norte High School.
Fawn enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage and a good hand of pinochle.
She deeply enjoyed visiting with her family and especially loved
cookouts at Dad’s Camp where she was famous for making her chili beans
and fry bread.
During her lifetime work, she own and operated her own beauty salon,
Fawn’s Beauty Nook, in San Rafael, Calif. Fawn was a respected elder of
the Yurok Tribe. She was on both the Cultural Committee, where she
served as both the vice-chair and chair, and on the NAGPRA Board. She
also served on the Indian Heritage Board for eight years.
During her life she served on numerous boards. She held every office
in the local PTA, was den mother for both the Boy Scouts and the
Bluebirds. Fawn acquired her part-time teaching credentials and worked
with at-risk kids at both the middle schools and High School in Del
Norte County. Fawn served as both the vice-chair and chair of the
Republican Women and on the National Republican Board representing all
the Indian tribes from California.
Fawn served on the Community Watch Board for Del Norte County , was a
member of the Del Norte County Grand Jury, served eight years on the
local hospital board of directors, along with serving on the Del Norte
County Fair Board.
Fawn loved to share her life stories with everyone, especially
children. All who met her found her to be loving, caring, compassionate,
charismatic, trustworthy and a loyal friend. All that came to know her
just fell in love with her. She was a strong family oriented mother who
loved her family greatly. Fawn loved and adored her savior Jesus Christ
for whom she was a warrior her entire life, right to the bitter end.
Fawn is survived by her children, Allan L. Morris, Sr. and Fawn A.
Morris Orr, along with grandchildren Stormy Morris, Abel Morris
(Brandy), Justin Morris (Angel), Allan L Morris Jr. (Robin), Dean Baker
(Charlotte), Fawn Baker (Dario), Shawna Orr (Chunky), Crystal Orr Baugh
(Joe), Randi Cook, Tawnie Cook and Jennifer Orr.
Fawn is also survived by her brother Chuck Williams and his wife Pat,
sister-in-law Bonnie Williams (Juke), sister-in-law Virginia Hatley
(Harry), along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Friday from 9
a.m. to 5 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Saturday,
March 26, at noon. Interment will follow at the Del Norte County
Veteran’s Cemetery in Crescent City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of
Crescent City.
