Obituaries: Gabby Wagner (Dec. 30, 1944 – Aug. 11, 2011)

Gabby Wagner, age 66, passed away August 11, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka. He was born on Dec. 30, 1944, in Hot Springs, S.D.

Gabby moved to the Crescent City area when he was still in school. He graduated from Del Norte High School in 1962 and joined the Navy directly after. When he got out, he married the love of his life Carolyn Sims Wagner at the Heart of Reno on March 12, 1978.

After working hard for Simson Logging Company in Klamath, for 15 years, he went back to school to get his nursing degree. After many long hours of school and driving back and forth from Crescent City to Eureka he received his degree and moved his family to Eureka. He started working at St. Joseph Hospital and worked there until he retired last year. He was an x-ray tech and a nurse’s assistant. He also liked to bowl and play golf.

Gabby is survived by wife Carolyn Wagner, brothers Charlie Wagner and wife Sandy, Norman Wagner and wife Darla, sister Janet and husband, son Daren Shanks and wife Sherri, daughter Mary Silva and husband Donald, granddaughters Becky Satterfield and husband Harley, Dennett Silva, and great-granddaughter Aliscia Satterfield.

A service for the family will be held at a later time.
