Glenna Jo Anne Craig died Sunday, October 2, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.
Born May 20, 1941, in Riverside, Calif., she graduated from the Upper Chetco School in 1955 and Brookings-Harbor High School in 1959. She went on to complete a bachelor’s degree with honors in Fine Art at San Diego State University in 1987.
An artist of many media, Glenna Jo was sharp of wit and quick to laugh. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, music and reading. Throughout life, her passion always returned to the theatre. Much of her last few years were spent working with the Brookings-Harbor theatre, where she designed costumes and props and loved acting and being on stage.
Most recently, she participated in a production of “My Fair Lady,”
and she especially enjoyed designing costumes for and acting in “Lady
Pirates of the Caribbean” with her granddaughter Eden. Glenna was a
talented seamstress and craftsman and loved making quilts for all of her
grandchildren. She passed on her love of the holidays (especially
Halloween and Christmas) to her children and grandchildren.
She had eight siblings: Norma Starbard of Brookings, Ralph Giddings
of Washington, Rodney Giddings of Brookings, Judith Giddings Sparks of
Brookings, and her beloved sister Deanna Sue Schnepp of Smith River, who
survive her. Her parents, Julian Delbert Giddings and Edna Teters
Giddings, and her brothers Robert, Richard, and Dean Giddings,
predeceased her.
She is survived by her four children, Alan McSwain, Patrick McSwain,
Angela McSwain and William Craig, and by nine grandchildren, Forrest,
Jessie, Portia, Max, Roxanne, Eden, Logan, Allison and Thomas. Her
grandson Declan Craig predeceased her.
At her request, there will be no formal services. A private family
gathering is planned for Saturday.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of
Crescent City.
