Harold Philip Hight, 83, died on Feb. 15, 2008, in Crescent City. He was born April 17, 1924, and was a lifelong resident of Del Norte County. Mr. Hight was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Harold retired from the Del Norte Sheriff's Office as a sergeant with 30 years of service. At one time he was employed by the Richmond Police Department and also served as chief of police in Port Orford, Ore. He had been a student of Police Science at the College of the Redwoods. During the construction of Pelican Bay Prison, he was involved with security.
He previously worked for Pan American World Airways as an aircraft electrician and for Radiation Laboratory, ARC, in Livermore.
He was a member of the Masons, Elks and Navy League. He also belonged to the Tin Can Sailors, International Footprints Association and the Grange.
He is survived by his two daughters, Linda Marie Green of Corydon, Ind., and Beverley (Susie) Shaw of Redding; step-sons Michael Leavitt of Crescent City and Terry Leavitt of Bend, Ore.; step-daughters Patti Alexander of Yuma, Ariz., and Barbara Howard of Port Orchard, Wash.; step- son Rick Pellam of Arizona; seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Wier's Mortuary Chapel today from 9 to 11 a.m. with funeral services starting at 11 a.m. Private interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
