Harold Rollin Shafer passed away on July 20, 2008, in Klamath. He was born on Oct. 1, 1921, in Rio Dell. He was a 73-year resident of Del Norte County, making his home in Klamath.
Mr. Shafer was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served his country during World War II. He was the owner/operator of a logging truck serving the local timber industry for over 30 years.
Harold was a member of the Tsunami Sams & Good Sam's RV travel clubs. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, camping with his family and working in his yard.
Harold is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wanda Hansen Shafer of Klamath; sons and daughters-in-law Allan and Carol Shafer of Crescent City, Bobby and Julie Shafer of Klamath, Curtis and Teresa Shafer of Crescent City, and Alan and Gillian Hutchinson of England; brother Harvey Shafer of Crescent City and sister Grace Whitehead of Lomita, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Doris Shafer; brother, Don Shafer, and sister, Ruth Bodeker.
Visitation will be held at Wier's Mortuary Chapel on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday from 8 to 11 a.m., with funeral services starting at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at the Del Norte County Veteran's Cemetery.
The family requests contributions be made to the Cancer Society's Relay for Life, 1301 Northcrest Drive, Crescent City, CA 95531, or one's favorite charity.
