Obituaries: Howard C. Nelson (June 11, 1915 – July 5, 2011)

Howard C. Nelson passed away peacefully at Sutter Coast Hospital on July 5, 2011, in Crescent City. He was a lifelong resident of Del Norte County. Howard was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served honorably during WW II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the local postal system for many years. His hobby was tools, which he enjoyed using in wood working. Howard also collected pictures of the ships that were used to transport the lumber from Crescent City Mills.

Howard is survived by his two nieces, a nephew, two cousin and numerous other relatives.

Graveside services will be held at Del Norte County Veteran’s Cemetery on Wednesday, July 13, at 1 p.m.

Contributions may be made in Howard’s name to the Del Norte County Historical Society, 577 H Street, Crescent City, CA 95531.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
