Hugh Albert Thompson died March 15, 2008. He was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Baker, Mont., to Emma to Muril Thompson.
He was raised in Crescent City until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy. Hugh served his country overseas and after his honorable discharge from the Navy, he met the love of his life, Treva "Lee" Sines in Portland, Ore. They married in 1946, relocated to Eureka and raised their family of four.
Hugh was a partner with his in-laws, Jimmy and Blanche Sines, operating Jimmy's Burger Bar for several years. Then he worked in local mills for 30 years until his retirement in 1979.
Hugh's hobbies included fishing, woodworking and years of motorcycle racing with his boys.
He is survived by his four children and spouses, Mike and Alta Thompson of Waldport, Ore., Gary and Denise Thompson of Eureka, Alan and Diana Thompson of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Peggy and Danny Mullins of Eureka; grandchildren Scott, Kevin, Jeff, Ryan, Chad Thompson, Katie and Molly Mullins; great-grandchildren Devin, Jami Lee and Rylan Thompson; sister and her husband Jeanne and Richard Evanow of Crescent City; and three nephews.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Muril Thompson; brother, Don; and his wife of 49 years, Treva "Lee."
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the local VFW of Eureka or American Heart Association.
