Obituaries: Jacob Karl Heriford Rich(1980-2008)

Jacob Karl Heriford Rich, 28, passed away Oct. 18, 2008, at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, a few days after sustaining head injuries in a bicycle accident in Crescent City.

Jacob was born May 25, 1980, in Eureka, and had lived and worked in Crescent City for more than 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and living life to the fullest.

Jacob is survived by his mother, Nylia Dyer of Crescent City; older brothers, Robert Gunter of Paradise, Calif., and Owen Christiansen of Crescent City; younger sister, Aleasha Rich of Crescent City; four nephews and three nieces of Crescent City; grandmother, Vivian Heriford of Crescent City; and a huge extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Other family members include his father, Michael Rich of Eugene, Ore., and younger siblings John and Accalia Rich.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Carl Heriford.

Jacob's family wishes to thank the community for its outpouring of emotional and financial support in a time of great need.

Immediate family gathered in Crescent City to honor Jacob the weekend following his death. A private gathering of family and friends will be held in celebration of Jacob's life Friday, Nov. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Lighthouse Inn conference center.

North Sacramento Funeral Home handled final arrangements.
