Obituaries: Janette Nola Steep Montez (Aug. 25, 1943 – June 15, 2011)

Janette Nola Steep Montez passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011, in Crescent City, at the age of 67. Born to Arthur Ernest Steep and Nola E. Brown of Humboldt County. Janette was a 25-year resident of Del Norte County.

Janette worked at the Sonoma County Mental Hospital as an activity director; she received her Bachelor Degree in Psychology from Sonoma State University before moving to Del Norte County.

Her hobbies included bingo, fishing, collecting frogs, writing poetry and being an advocate for green Earth. Janette had a big heart to help those in need; she will be missed dearly by all her friends and family.

She is survived by her son Kevin Montez of Crescent City; her brother Terry Steep of Crescent City; eight grandchildren: Andrew Montez, Channing Montez, Megan Montez, Janelle Montez, Ashley Montez, Simon Carroll, Johnny Carroll and James Garber, seven Grandchildren and her cat Sammy.

Graveside services will be held at the Smith River District Cemetery on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at 2 p.m. Family and friends are invited for a potluck and gathering following services at 3580 Railroad Avenue extension in Crescent City.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
