Obituaries: Joanna Ellen McRobert Nov. 27, 1919 – April 11, 2011

Joanna Ellen McRobert passed away peacefully April 11, 2011 in Brookings, Ore., after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born Nov. 27, 1919, in Astoria, Ore., to David B Easter and Bertha L. nee: Thomson, she was a 54-year resident of Crescent City.

Joanna graduated from Forest Grove High School in Forest Grove, Ore. She married Curtis McRobert and they lived in Gales Creek, Ore., where they raised their four children. She was active in PTA, Boy Scouts, Campfire Girls and 4H while her children were growing. Joanna enjoyed taking her kids to “the beach” and on camping trips at their “Place” on the Wilson River.

She worked in the kitchens of several restaurants throughout Del Norte County, the last being Ship Ashore. Joanna enjoyed music, gardening (especially healing herbs), cooking, beach combing and photography. She loved all animals.

Joanna was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and delighted in the friendship of the Charity Circle group.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Curtis McRobert. She will be missed by her children, Keith McRobert; Steven McRobert (Debbie); Myrna Finley (Mike) and Walter McRobert (Laurie).

Her grandchildren Neva Finley-Ricks (Russell); Natalie Finley-Lopez; Michael McRobert (Holly); Steven McRobert (Cindy); Shannon Werder; Ryan Himes (Stacee); Serena Sorenson (John); Amanda McRobert; Ryan McRobert (Krystyna); Justin McRobert (Jessica) and Grant McRobert.

Her great-grandchildren Blake Lopez (Nikki); Tyler and Logan Lopez; Karlee and Rylan Ricks; Evan and Maudie McRobert; Conner, Nathan and Alisa McRobert; Dustyn McRobert; Kodie, Donald, James and Kassidie Werder; Brandon and Caiden Himes and Avery McRobert.

Her great-great-grandchild Sawyer Lopez.

Also, she will be remembered by her wonderful neighbors “who were like family,” Tom and Alberta Beers and family.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church piano fund, 188 East Cooper Avenue, Crescent City, CA 95531
