Obituaries: Johnnie Young (May 2, 1952 – Mar. 23, 2011)

Johnnie Young died March 23, 2011, after a long battle with cancer. A lifelong resident, he was born in Crescent City, on May 2, 1952, to John C. and Lois A. Young. He attended Pine Grove School, Crescent Elk and graduated from Del Norte High School in 1970.

Johnnie had various jobs, some of which were at Standard Veneer Mill, Ziegler Logging, Home Water Systems, Crescent Electric and as a rental manager.

He was also a volunteer firefighter with Crescent Fire Protection for about 10 years and a charter member of the Moose Lodge of Crescent City.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents John and Lois Young, sister and brother-in-law Myrtle and Joe Nichols and niece Deborah Nichols Kundert.

He is survived by his brothers Jim (Carol) Young of Auburn, Calif.; Jerry (Becki) Young and sister Jean (David) Restad of Crescent City.

Nieces and nephews Kathleen Woolam, John (Mac) Young, Joseph Young, Aubree Young, Rodney Restad, David Young, Travis Kundert and Lisa McMillan.

Funeral services will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Monday, March 28 at 3 p.m. Interment will follow at the IOOF Memorial Cemetery.

Contributions in Johnnie’s memory may be made to Evergreen Lodge, 2700 Dolbeer, Eureka, CA 95501 (707-445-8121).

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
