Laura Rachel McBride died Sept. 1, 2007 in Crescent City at the age of 83.
She was born July 12, 1924 in Wister, Okla. to William and Ora Adi Hamlin.
She met and married Vernie McBride in Reno, Nev. The couple moved to Crescent City in 1964.
During the 1960s and 70s she and her husband were both avid bowlers. They bowled on many leagues and in many tournaments. She loved to fish, hunt and spend time out in the woods.
She also loved to grow gardens and work in them. She canned most of what was grown in the garden. She also made jams and jellies with the berries she and others had fun picking.
She also like to knit, crochet and make quilts and afghans, giving them to many family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Vernie McBride of Crescent City; her sons Verne McBride (Sandy) of Crescent City and Charles Gilbert and (Carolyn) of Crescent City; her sisters Evelyn Francis of New Mexico and Lavene Craig of Oklahoma, her brothers, Frank Hamlin of New Mexico and Dewy Hamlin; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Virginia Moore and brother Zadoc Hamlin.
Visitation will be held at Wier's Mortuary Chapel from 9-11 a.m. Thursday. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. at Del Norte County Veteran's Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel.
