Obituaries: Leo Wylie(1932-2008)

Leo Wylie, 75, of Crescent City passed away at Sutter Coast Hospital on July, 18, 2008, surrounded by friends and family. He was born Nov. 17, 1932 in Sacramento, and was a Del Norte resident for 12 years.

He spent many years supporting his family as a printer, then began freelancing as an investigator. He loved the research and adventure and this became the theme of his life. He was a celebrated senior student at College of the Redwoods Del Norte in the late 1990s and never lost his love of learning.

He is survived by his life partner Sally Wentzel of Virginia and her family; his sons David Wylie of Brazil and Mike Wylie of Crescent City; daughters Debra Wylie of Sacramento and Michelle Wylie-Gilbert of Ridgecrest; grandchildren Jason, Christian, Lacy, Krystal, Noel, Rachel, Nicole, Joleen, Sarah-Olivia, Kenneth, Justin and Jordan; an army of great-grandchildren and close friends whom he embraced as family.

A celebration of his life is slated for Saturday at 6 p.m. at Our Daily Bread Ministries at 1135 Harold St. in Crescent City. The event will be a potluck and friends and family of Leo are invited to come, share stories and break bread in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made as contributions to the Leo Wylie Lifelong Learner Scholarship Fund. More information about the fund will be available at Our Daily Bread Ministries.
