Louis "Lou" Belgard passed away on August 19, 2007 in Keizer, Ore.
He was born on January 28, 1932 in Browning, Mont. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Korean War.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Ore., as an administrator in guidance. At the school, he performed Pow-Wows for 15 years and was a basketball coach. He enjoyed his Indian culture.
Lou had visited Del Norte County on many occasions and loved to fish on the Klamath River. He is survived by his wife, Vicki Gensaw Belgard, of Keizer, Ore.; his sons, Louis Belgard Jr. and Steven Belgard, both of Keiser, Ore.; Michael Belgard of Salem, Ore.; his brothers, Bill Belgard of Omak, Wash., Ermine Belgard of Cut Bank, Mont., Lenny Belgard of Omak, Wash. and Darrel Belgard of Portland, Ore.; his sister Joy and 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Wier's Mortuary Chapel. The burial took place at the Gensaw family plot in Requa. Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
