Obituaries: Marilyn "Sunshine" Kalista(1949 -2008)

Marilyn "Sunshine" Kalista passed away May 28, 2008, after a battle with cancer. Marilyn was born in Medford, Ore., on Aug. 21, 1949, to Alice and Lee Whitesides.

She was a member of the Cornerstone Church. She often referred to this past year as "just a closer walk with Jesus." She loved music, bingo, camping, family gatherings and reunions, but was most at home on the coast.

She is survived by her children Terri, Cliff and Howie of Crescent City and Sue Powell of White City, Ore.; grandsons Gary, Luke and Dakota; great-granddaughter Sophia; life-long friend Gary Nelson; sisters Sandra Reed of Jamestown, W.Va., Betty Holberton and Donna Morgan of Central Point, Ore.; and half-brothers Lynn Freeman of Des Moines, Wash., and Roger Readon of Gresham, Ore.

She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, close friends and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, as well as brothers Lee and Larry Whitesides.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Evergreen Lodge, 2700 Dolbeer, Eureka, CA 95501.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the IOOF Memorial Cemetery, Crescent City.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
