Obituaries: Mary Dawn Cudworth(1948-2008)

Mary Dawn Cudworth, 60, passed away on May 19, 2008, in Smith River. She was born Feb. 20, 1948, in Eugene, Ore. Mary grew up in Oakridge, Ore., and graduated from Oregon College of Education in Mammoth.

Mary spent all of her teaching years at Smith River Elementary School. She was a much-loved teacher who faithfully instructed more than 900 students in her career. Mary adopted the joy of her life, a daughter, Candace, in 1978. They enjoyed Disneyland, books, animals and pets, camping and spontaneous road trips.

Mary is survived by her daughter Candace Cudworth of Willits; one brother Leland Cudworth of Rainier, Ore.; three sisters Phyllis Watson of Grants Pass, Ore., Vicki Patrick of Junction City, Ore., and Wilda Arbo of Florida; several nieces and nephews and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Fred Cudworth, mother Neva Cudworth, brother Glenn Cudworth and sister Frances Patterson.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Smith River Elementary School, 654 First St., Smith River.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Smith River Elementary Gymnasium Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
