Maurice Dean Cupp, 56, passed away Nov. 7, 2008, in Brookings. He was born in Nampa, Idaho, on Aug. 7, 1952, to William and Eulah Cupp.
He was a resident of Curry County and previously of Del Norte County. Mr. Cupp was drafted into the U.S. Army on March 26, 1970. He was stationed in Vietnam from April 7, 1971, until Feb. 18, 1972. He was honorably discharged on March 23, 1973.
He married Penny Goltz from Crescent City on Dec. 14, 1973. They resided in Del Norte County until 1986, later moving to Curry County. His interests included mechanics and carpentry as a small boy. As a young man, he enjoyed dirt bike riding.
He is survived by his children Tiffany and husband Jeremiah Quackenbush of Brookings; Bradley Cupp and Paul "Danny" Cupp, both of Brookings; Dean and wife Amy Klotz of Newbury Park; brothers Bill and wife Esther Cupp of Sixes, Ore., and Morgan "Bud" and wife Alice Cupp of Blue Lake; and six grandchildren Makenzie Cupp, Silas Qackenbush, Morgan Quackenbush, Opal Klotz, Lucy Klotz and Ruth Klotz.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Eulah Cupp, his sister Camille DeMello and wife Penny Cupp.
A memorial service will take place at Grace Bible Church, 302 North Hazel, Brookings at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Private interment will take place at the Del Norte County Veterans Cemetery, Crescent City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
