Obituaries: Milton Stanford(1948-2008)

Milton "Nate" Stanford, 60, born Sept. 14, 1948, in Calhoun, La., passed away Nov. 11, 2008, in Crescent City. He was a 50-year resident of Del Norte County who attended local schools and graduated from Del Norte High School in 1966.

Prior to his retirement, he was a commercial fisherman for 25 years. Nate loved sport fishing and one of his greater accomplishments was rebuilding bicycles for any young child in his neighborhood. Any repairs that needed to be done, the kids would go to Nate for help.

He is survived by his children Bonnie Lynn Sanford and Michael McCrory, both of Crescent City, and Candy Dawn Barnes of Fairberry, Neb.; siblings Avis Dean Huffman and Sylvestor Stanford, both of Crescent City, and Becky Hodges of Brookings, Ore.; six grandchildren Steven Sanford, Justin McCrory, Allisa McCrory, Cortney Arellano, Joshua Barnes and Cody McCrory; and numerous other relatives.

The family requests donations be made to Santa's Workshop, c/o Rural Human Services, 286 M St., Crescent City, or Crescent City Nursing and Rehab Special Equipment Fund, 1280 Marshall St., Crescent City 95531.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
