Ruby Mildred Hyatt-Edgmon passed to her rest at Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City on Feb. 5, 2011. She was born in rural Virginia on July 10, 1931, to Archie and Fannie Lawrence.
One of several siblings, she left home at an early age to live with a sister in Oregon and later migrated to Northern California. She lived her life as a simple country girl with an enjoyment of the outdoors, gardening, and spending time with family. Ruby was a resident of Crescent City for more than 50 years, working as a homemaker, mill worker, and medical assistant. In her retirement years, she proudly served in the Senior Citizens on Patrol/RSVP program sponsored by the Crescent City Police Department. Ruby would bring smiles to all she met and helped keep her community in order.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Roy Hyatt, a
logger. She later remarried to Vern Edgmon, a mill worker, who also
preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Amber (Roberta)
Lucatero of Crescent City and her son, Bill Hyatt of Santa Rosa. She is
also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at the Del Norte County Veteran’s
Cemetery at 11 a.m. on August 13, 2011.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of
