Rusty Farr died at his home on Nov. 28, with his wife Vicky, his sister Dreama, and great friend Roy Powell by his side, at his home in Gasquet. He passed away peacefully from complications resulting from Cystic Fibrosis. He was 58 years old.

Russ was born in Mullens, W. Va. on August 10, 1949. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the U.S.S. Long Beach, during the Vietnam War. After he served his country, he began his 26-year career at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Fairfield, where he worked as a maintenance mechanic, and made many lifelong friends. After his retirement, he and Vicky moved to beautiful Gasquet.

Russ enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle all over the country, with his wife and their friends, and the Napa-Solano HOG chapter. He enjoyed scuba diving in many tropical areas with his wife. He was also very proud of his achievement of fifth-degree black belt status in the martial art of Kajukenbo. He spent many hours training in his art, and many hours giving back to his school through teaching classes. There are many people who were trained by "Sifu" Farr. He was passionate, dedicated, and well respected by his students and fellow martial artists.

Russ is survived by his wife, Vicky Oberle Farr; his father, Robert, of Crescent City; his sister and brother-in-law, Dreama and Richard Wetherell of Surprise, Ariz., his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Betty of Pfaffton, N.C.; and his stepson and daughter-in-law Danny and Kim Roote of Jackson, Wyo., along with many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma.

Russ was well-known for being compassionate, helpful, sincere, funny, and easygoing. He spent many hours studying the Bible and strengthening his faith in the Lord. Many will sorely miss his easy smile and warm personality. Many people's lives were enriched by knowing him.

There will be a memorial service for Russ at the Gasquet Bible Church in Gasquet, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Humane Society or a favorite charity.
