Obituaries: Shirley Ann Sherman (May 9, 1952 – April 18, 2011)

On April 18, 2011, Shirley Ann Sherman, a Tolowa Tribal member passed away. She was born on May 9, 1952, and passed away at the age of 58.

Shirley was an avid 49’er fan, loved life, her family and the color green. She always had a smile on her face, she was the life of the party and brought joy to everyone she met. Shirley will be dearly missed by her family and will have a special place in all of our hearts.

She is survived by her mom Beverly Jean James, brothers Darrell Joseph Sherman (Kathy); Cecil Hansen Sherman, Jr., Douglas Alan James, sister Diane Sue Wilson (Robert), Debra Elaine Sherman; uncles Ted and Beverly Moorehead, Richard Lloyd Moorehead, grandchildren Stacie Grace Gorman and Nikita Ann Gorman. Her special friend Jerry (Jerrykins) McCovey and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her son Shannon Duane Gorman, daughter Stacie Lynn Gorman, father Cecil Hansen Sherman, Sr., brothers Duane Elmer Sherman, Robert Raymond Sherman, Dennis Lee Sherman Sr., sisters Diane Lynn Sherman, Donna Jean Sherman, grandparents Ted and Isabelle Moorehead, Hansen and Martha Sherman.

Pallbearers will be Marvin Richard, Randy Richards, Ronnie Richards, Toni Rae Peters, Dennis Lee Sherman, Jr., Henry James, Robert Wilson and Rick Moorehead.

Honorary Pallbearers: Darrel (Joe) Sherman, Cecil Sherman, Jr., Douglas James, Jerry McCovey, John Fiester, Jr., George (Butch) Buckley.

Visitation will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, April 21, from noon until 5 p.m.

Funeral services will be on Friday, April 22, at 1 p.m. at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel with interment to follow at the IOOF Memorial Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
