Sophia Edna Black Duncan arrived at her heavenly home on September 26, 2011. She was born on July 31, 1914, in Waynesville, Mo., to Lewis V. Black and Clara Alice Pipkin Black. Sophia was raised in Winfield, Kan., and was saved at a tent revival at age 10.
She worked at Seymores until her marriage to Orville Duncan on October 15, 1931. In 1941, Sophia, Orville and their three daughters moved to Torrance, Calif., and later a son joined their family. In 1975 Orville retired and they moved back to Winfield. Sophia was a member of the Royal Neighbors for many years. She loved to bowl and play bingo. Sophia was blessed with a long, good life and will be greatly missed.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 57 years, Orville Duncan,
daughter Twila Dawn Duncan, grandsons David Haselwood, Tracy Main and
Dennis Duncan, son-in-law Walter L. Klein and great-granddaughter Kelly
Fritz.
Sophia is survived by her daughter Carolyn Klein of Crescent City;
Wauthena and husband Bill Main of Springfield, Mo., and son Dale Duncan
of Crescent City. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 15
great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren. 2 nieces and 1
nephew.
Graveside services will be held at Highland Cemetery in Winfield,
Kan., on October 6, 2011, at noon.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of
Crescent City.
