Obituaries: Wayne L. Seamans (July 25, 1924 – July 14, 2011 )

Born July 25, 1924, in Springfield, Ore., died July 14, 2011, in Brookings, Ore., after a brief illness.

Wayne is survived by Phyllis Seamans, his beloved wife of 68 years, son Chris (Alice), grandson Rogan (Malinda), and great-granddaughters Kayla, Lillian, and Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by his son Scott, parents Frank and Lulu, his brother Lloyd, and sisters Pauline Miller and Juanita Robbins.

A veteran of World War II, Wayne was a member of the 97th Infantry (Trident) Division, and served in both Europe and Occupied Japan.

An accomplished millwright and carpenter, Wayne moved to Crescent City in 1962 to build Miller-Rellim Redwood Company. He later worked as a superintendent for Wright Schuchart Harbor, Co. at the Simpson Pulp Mill in Samoa, Calif. One of his last major projects was supervising the construction of a diatomaceous earth plant in Burney, Calif.

Wayne was a member of the Crescent City Elks Lodge 1689 for 43 years and a member of the Grand Lodge of A.F. and A.M. of Oregon for 49 years.

Some of Wayne’s happiest memories were of fishing on the Ana River in Eastern Oregon with his sons and grandson, out-fishing all of them with his old Heddon fly rod. Wayne was also an avid woodworker who enjoyed working on projects for his family, friends, and neighbors.

Always ready to lend a hand, Wayne lived by his word and his handshake. A kind and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor, he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
