Obituaries: William "Bill" L. McGhee(1935-2008)

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 5, at the Crescent City United Methodist Church, 664 H St., for William "Bill" L. McGhee.

Mr. McGhee passed away Nov. 26, 2007, at a local hospital of natural causes. He was born Nov. 30, 1935, in Whittier, Calif., son of William Loren McGhee Sr. and Edna Harriet (Sullivan) McGhee. He was raised in Sacramento and Blythe.

Following high school graduation, Mr. McGhee worked at a radio station and as a movie theater projectionist in Blythe. He moved to Alturas and in the 1960s relocated to Del Norte County, first living in Smith River and later in Crescent City.

Mr. McGhee had worked for Bill Stamps at KPOD. He was a positive person with a "can-do" attitude in spite of physical limitations and being wheelchair-bound for the last 15 years. Model railroading was a favorite hobby. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, and was a past Kiwanis Club member.

Survivors include a brother, Glenn McGhee of Los Altos; and a sister, Patricia Austin of Vallejo.

Mr. McGhee was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
