William L. "Bill" Erickson, 79, died June 14, 2007, in Crescent City after fighting a long and arduous battle with cancer.
He was born to Harold L. and Vivian F. Erickson Aug. 13, 1927, in Mount Vernon, Wash., and lived in Del Norte County for 55 years.
He served three years in the Merchant Marines before he enrolled in college, but later learned that the draft applied to him and enlisted in the U.S. Army after his second year in school.
The Army chose him for Officer's Candidate School which he graduated from as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was assigned to various U.S. Army posts, and was honorably discharged in 1951.
After his discharge, he came to Crescent City as a shareholder at Standard Veneer and Timber, where he split his time between producing plywood and becoming a Real Estate broker. He owned and operated Erickson Realty across from the courthouse on H Street for nearly 30 years.
He was elected to the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors in 1972 and held the position until 1976, when he moved to Carson City, Nev.
He is survived by his daughters, Dianne Williams and Sharon Erickson of Carson City, Nev. , and Leanne Jensen of Seminole, Fla.
He is also survived by four grandsons, Jason Presnell, Tory Jensen, Adam Jensen and Jeff Jensen; one granddaughter, Erica Williams; and twin great-grandsons, Jacob and Jeremiah Jensen.
He is also survived by his two sisters, Carol Erickson of Crescent City and Lynda Finch of Montrose, Colo.
In accordance with his wishes, private services have been held. A small gathering of family and friends is planned for an as-to-be-determined date.
Arrangements were under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel.
