Lifelong Smith River resident Wilma Woolworth passed away at home on Sunday, March 11, 2007, with loved ones by her side. She was 92 years old.
Wilma was born in Crescent City on Oct. 5, 1914, to William and Winnie Morrison. Her ancestors were among the first pioneers in Smith River Valley. Wilma, the eldest of six children, was raised on the family farm and attended Rowdy Creek School with perfect attendance for all eight years. She was involved in 4-H and livestock along with her brothers and sisters. She graduated from Del Norte High School in 1933.
In 1938, she married Osborne "Ozzie" Woolworth, originally from Eagle River, Wis. They made their home and raised their children in Smith River where they fished and raised big gardens. She was a homemaker and worked the lily fields and he guided on the river. In 1978, Ozzie passed away. Wilma was a Christian woman and worked as a Foodbank volunteer at the Smith River Methodist Church for more than 25 years until two years ago where she also attended church as well as the Crescent City Foursquare Church. She baked, cooked and crocheted for many church functions and numerous fundraisers. She was loved by her family, her friends and her dogs and was loving, kind, patient and humble.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 40 years, Osborne Woolworth; her parents, William and Winnie Morrison; her brothers William and Fred Morrison; and her sisters Evelyn Hollinsworth and Frances Sarina. She leaves her youngest sister, Cora Rice of Albany, Ore.; her son, John Woolright and wife Parma of Smith River; her daughter, Sally Daniels and husband Duane of Crescent City; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Morrison of Smith River. She also leaves her gandsons, John Daniels and wife Lori; Gary Daniels and wife Renea; Jeff Daniels and wife Danielle; grand-daughter, Carrie Schmidke and husband Mark; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, and numerous nieces, nephews and kin.
Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Thursday, March 15, at Wier's Mortuary Chapel. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Friday, March 16, at the Foursquare Gospel Church with interment to follow at the Smith River District Cemetery. Fellowship will follow at the Foursquare Gospel Fireside room. Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City. The family requests contributions be made to one's favorite charity.
