Yingya Yang, 17, passed away July 26, 2008, at the Fresno Community Hospital while undergoing treatment for leukemia. She was born April 23, 1991, at the same hospital. Yingya was diagnosed with leukemia in June 2008 and was expected to make a full recovery prior to her sudden battle with pneumonia.
Yingya spent most of her childhood in Fresno and attended Clovis East High as a freshman. She attended Del Norte High School and Sunset High School for both her sophomore and junior years in Crescent City. Yingya and her family were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints First Ward in Crescent City.
She loved all animals, especially her rabbit, Yuko, and cat, Chibbi. She enjoyed reading her Bible and learning about her Mormon faith, drawing and art, playing her Playstation, clothes shopping and singing.
She had recently competed in the televised "Cal-Or Idol" singing competition.
Yingya was preceded in death by her grandparents and her father, Saopheng Leng Yang.
Yingya is survived by her mother, Mee Lo Yang, her step-father, Richard Chong Vang Yang, six sisters, two brothers, three step-sisters, two step-brothers, and one half-sister.
Viewing will take place at the Jesse E. Cooley Chapel on Aug. 9 and 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Aug. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to noon, followed by a graveside service that will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery in Fresno.
