Thelma Mills Thompson, 94, of Gasquet, died September 26, 2011, at the home of her daughter Doris and son-in-law Maynard Dalbec. Thelma was born and raised in Yancey County, North Carolina, but had been a resident of the Crescent City and Gasquet area for 57 years. She was the daughter of the late Grady R. Smith and Axie Cordelia Smith of Fletcher, N.C.
Thelma was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a lover of antiques, a talented artist, and one of the founding members of the Del Norte Art Association. Thelma will be dearly missed.
In addition to Doris and son-inlaw Maynard Dalbec, she is survived by her son Ronald Carson Mills and daughter-in-law Marlene Mills of Crescent City; two sisters, Sarah “Nettie” Goodson and Ruth Novy; one brother John Harris Smith of Fletcher, N.C. Ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Thomas Mills. After his death in 1962, she married Oswald Thompson, who passed away in 1993. She was also preceded in death by her son Bobby Joe Tilson, sister Jean Davis and five brothers: George Smith, Ernest Smith, Ed Smith, Will Smith and Dan Smith.

Graveside services will be held at the Del Norte County Veteran’s Cemetery on Thursday, September 29, at 10 a.m., with the Reverend John Dean officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
