Ada Charles passed Feb. 21, 2013, peacefully. She was born December 17, 1909, in  Waukell, Klamath, Calif. Ada Charles grew up and lived most of her life in Klamath. She has been a Traditional Basket Weaver for approximately 95 years, always able to make any basket. Ada Charles was the eldest Yurok Tribal member. She was fluent in her native language of Yurok.

She is a loving mother of eight children: Jeannette Eberhardt and husband Gig; Arlen Charles; Florine Fern Bates and husband Bruce; JoAnn Moore; Lloyd Charles; previously deceased children Pauline Charles, Larry Charles and Byron Scott. Loving Grandmother Aunty, great-great-grandmother, etc. She has numerous grandchildren, too many to list individually. We are very family oriented! We have a huge family!

A wake will be held at the family home of Bruce and Fern Bates, 110 Klamath Circle, Klamath, Calif., on Sunday, February 24, 2013, starting at noon.

The Funeral Services will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel February 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. with interment following at the family plot, Waukell River Bar, Klamath, Calif. After services a fellowship will be held at Yurok Tribal Office, 5 p.m.
