Alice was a stay-at-home mother until she enrolled in nursing school. She graduated from College of the Redwoods as a L.V.N and began working for Seaside Hospital where she continued to work until it was demolished and was replaced by Sutter Coast. She worked for Sutter Coast until an injury to her neck forced her to retire. Alice was accomplished in genealogy, music and she loved to read. She enjoyed nothing better than a good game of checkers with her beloved grandchildren. She enjoyed many family outings in the redwoods.
Alice was preceded in death by her father Edward Kelly and her mother Myrtle Kelly, husband of 28 years Earl Rankin, her daughter Janice Rankin Martinson, and a grandson Joshua Wayne Salter. She always said there will never be a more beautiful place on earth as our redwood trees and you could not find a better place to live.
Alice is survived by her children, Edward Rankin, and partner Phillip Stockwell; Earl Rankin and his wife, Janet; Raymond Rankin and his wife, Andrea Mussen Rankin and her daughter Colleen Rankin, fiancée David Wheeler. She is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Alyshia Rankin, Darrick Rankin, Demitri Rankin, Dimitri Zigotegos, Chris Zigotegos and Joseph Rankin.
Alice’s wish was simply this, “Remember me with smiles and laughter for that’s how I will remember you all, if you can only remember me with tears and sorrow...then don’t remember me at all...” She will be missed more than words can tell.
Graveside services will be Friday, November 9, at 11 a.m. Family and friends welcome afterward for food and fond memories at the family home. We all love you and miss you dearly Alice Rankin, born July 19, 1933, passed on November 4, 2012.
