Alma Faye Karnes of Klamath, Calif., went to be with her Lord on May 13, 2009. She was surrounded by her family at home.
She was born June 15, 1934, to Alfred and Ophia Pendleton in Nogo, Ark-ansas. She graduated from Dover High, Ark-ansas, in 1953 and shortly after moved with the family to Exeter, Calif., where she gained employment at Ray River Music store. Alma married Gordon Karnes on December 24, 1956, in Exeter. Gordon and Alma moved to Eureka, Calif., in 1965, then on to Hoopa, Calif., in 1967 and then to Klamath in 1989.
They have three children, Barry (Dawna) Karnes of San Jose, Calif., David (Julie) Karnes of Blue Lake, Calif., and Leigh Ann Eswonia (Scott Lorfing) of San Luis Obispo, Calif. She especially loved to spend time with her three grandsons, Eugene Eswonia, Joshua Karnes and Caleb Karnes.
Alma accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a teenager and has lived her life accordingly. She has always been active in her local church.
She is survived by her mother, Ophia Pendleton, sisters Betty Higdon, Euletta Stuart, Doreen Seal, Pat Seal, Linda Starkey and brothers Bob Pendleton and Bill Pendleton along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Pendleton.
Services by Wier’s Mortuary Chapel, Crescent City, Calif., and by Smith Family Chapel in Exeter. Viewing at Smith Family Chapel, 505 East Pine Street, Exeter, Calif., on Thursday, May 21, at 3:00-7:00 pm and Friday, May 22 at 8:30-9:30 am. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2009, at Exeter Public Cemetery at 10:00 am.
