Arlene Evelyn Handy, a 50-year resident of Crescent City, passed away Jan. 3, 2009.
Arlene was born May 13, 1917, in Arlington, Wash., the daughter of Carroll W. and Dora (Tubbs) Handy. She was raised in Skykomish, Wash., and graduated from Skykomish High School in 1935.
Arlene worked for many years and during WWII at Boeing in Seattle. She later moved to Crescent City with her husband, Clarence Engstrom.
She worked at Dailey’s until it closed, then worked as the receptionist at the Pacific Motor Motel until her retirement. Arlene also took care of her parents after they came to live with her. She liked to travel and attended all the big events of her relatives in Washington State.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, brothers William and Ernest Handy, and her sister Gladys Wilson.
She is survived by her step-daughter Lorraine Richards of Eureka, sister Georgiana Smith of Kingston, Wash., and numerous nieces and nephews.
At her request there will be no funeral. Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel.
