Berni Rimack, proud wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and Emblem Club member, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 surrounded by love and her family. She was 70 years old.
Berni was born May 8, 1944, to Antonio and Flora Scaplo in Pueblo, Colorado. In 1962, she married Ron Rimack, with the couple spending 52 years together in marriage.
Berni and Ron moved to Crescent City from Southern California in 1990. She spent her career as a legal secretary, working for a number of local attorneys. She was passionate about her work and helped to found an organization for legal secretaries in Northern California.
If Berni wasn’t behind a desk in a law office, she could be found with her fellow Emblem Club members volunteering in the community. She spent two terms as the Crescent City Emblem Club President and was dedicated to the organization and cherished the friendships made through her involvement. She was also a member of the Crescent City Rotary Club and a former Del Norte County Grand Jury member.
Berni loved her family and they were the greatest source of her pride. Berni is survived by husband Ron; daughters Leighann (Darius), Cyndi, and Brenda (Chris); grandchildren Toni (Nick), Ronni, Brittni (Ruan), TJ (BreAnna), Alyssa, Ashley, Alec, and Adryana; great-grandson Jovanni and numerous close friends and Emblem sisters.
Berni was known for her ornery streak, her tenacity, and her wittiness. She loved to spend time in her rose garden and was an avid football fan, with an allegiance to her home state team, the Denver Broncos.
She was predeceased by parents Tony and Flora Scaplo, brother Ralph Scaplo and granddaughter Alexa Aliabadi.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 19, at 1 p.m. at the Crescent City Elks Lodge, 356 H St.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund in memory of Berni Rimack has been established through the Crescent City Emblem Club 175, care of the Crescent City Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 824, Crescent City, CA 95531.
