Betty grew up in Kansas City, Mo., then moved to St. Helens, Ore., where she met and married John B. Howard. They moved to the Sacramento area, where they raised their two daughters and she started her career in the medical field.
When the family relocated to Crescent City in 1969, Betty worked in the office of Dr. Kasper, Dr. Alksnis, Dr. Thomas and Dr. Vipond. She then worked at Seaside Hospital as a unit clerk until she joined the office of Dr. Michael Mavris, at Point St. George Medical Clinic, as the office manager until her retirement.
After retirement she volunteered for many years with Sutter Coast Auxiliary. She also volunteered with the Foster Grandparent Program reading with third grade students at Joe Hamilton School. Betty was a past member of the Crescent City Emblem Club and Crescent City Bowling League. Although Betty loved her work in the medical field, her all-time love was her family.
With her family, she loved Sunday dinners, game nights and desserts. Gramma Betty will be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile, her infectious laugh and her gracious and loving spirit. She will be missed greatly, but we cannot thank her enough for all the loving precious memories she gave us.
Betty is survived by her daughter Chere (Richard) Wier; granddaughter Stacy (William) Stephens; grandson Eric (Amber) Wier and great-grandchildren Sienna and Marcus Wier all of Crescent City; grandson Rainey Hanitchek.
Betty was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela Hanitchek; former husband John Howard; her parents, Eugene and Eunice Lee; her brother Warren Lee, and her sister Ora Ann Lee.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at 2 p.m. with interment following at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A fellowship will follow services at the home of Chere and Rich Wier. Family prefers donations made to a charity of choice.
