Following his high school graduation, Carl enlisted in the U.S. Navy for 10 years. He served his country aboard ships as a butcher and cook. Following his honorable discharge in 1955, he returned to San Bernardino, where his parents had settled.
Always employed at his trade, Carl married Carol A. Shaw on Feb. 16, 1969. Their daughter, Laura L. Whaley, completed the Whaley family in 1970.
Carl was happiest when cooking, candle-making or enjoying a taco feast on the back porch of his folks’ home. Following a move to Paradise, Calif., Carl owned and operated “The Meat Market” there. He retired in 1982 and moved to Crescent City to be near his family and the ocean that he loved.
He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Laura L. Whaley; step-children Scott C. Shaw and Shelly M. Woods; grandchildren Kimberly Ann Whaley, Katelyn Mae Whaley and Kristen Leann Whaley.
A private memorial will be held by the family.
