In 1963 she moved to Eureka, where she received her LVN license and worked in the nursing field for several years before coming back to Smith River, where she spent the remainder of her life. Catherine is survived by her daughters, Rosalind Jones, Crescent City, and Marilyn Bray of Buckeye, Ariz., sons Harold (Pete) Gardner; Leroy E. Gardner, of Smith River; Frederick Hostler, of Toledo, Ore.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Richards; daughter Rose “Tweet” Smoker and son Alfred Hostler.
Visitation will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Funeral services will follow on Friday, November 1, 2013, at 1 p.m. with interment at the Howonquet Indian Cemetery, Smith River. Family and friends are invited for a potluck following services at the Lucky 7 Casino Bingo Hall in Smith River.
