Delma Jean Jones (Jan. 17, 1932 - Apr. 2, 2009)
Delma Jean Jones was born on January 17, 1932 in Hoopa, CA. She passed away on April 2, 2009 in Crescent City.Delma was a resident of Del Norte County for 54 years. She loved to work with her hands. Some of the things she made are displayed in museums today. She was known by many as ‘Mom Jones’. She would always say there is no grandma’s around here. Everything she ever tried to make which were many different things she perfected
the art. She made beautiful beadwork and baskets. Everyone loved what she made and she was known for her crochet hats she made later in life which were in demand.
She is survived by her children Marvin Jones and Terri Jones-Noble of Crescent City and her sister Marion McLaughlin of Eureka and her brother Peter Nix of Weitchpec. Her step-children Barbara McNertney and Richard Jones of Eureka and Kenny Jones of Crescent City and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Also many nieces and nephews scattered around. Also she is survived by many friends who loved her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Clifford Jones, her mother Annie Nix-Love, her sisters Dixie Mann and Pasty Rocha, her children Edith, Harold, Shirley, Larry, Clifton, and John Jones, and step-son Clifford Jones, her grandson Clifford Jones the Third and family friend Lawrence Rydel.
Pallbearers will be Harold Jones, Clifton Jones, Michael Jones, Johnny Jones, Larry Jones Jr., Marvin Jones, Kenny Jones, Kenny Frank Jr., Richard Jones, Jim Holt, Artie Jones and Wallace Scott.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Merkie Oliver, Corky Sims, Willie Thompson, Tommy ‘Caveman’ Wilson, Jack Scott, Michael ‘Mikey’ Jones, Al Schoonover, Marvin ‘Jake’ Jones and Robert Nosik.
The family will have a graveside service on Saturday April 11, 2009 at 1:00 pm at the IOOF Memorial Cemetery. A gathering will follow with a potluck reception at the Yurok Tribal office in Klamath at 2:00 pm. Her step-son Richard Jones will officiate for the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
