She had various jobs during her working years. She had been employed at Courtesy Market, West Coast Telephone Company and Safeway before retiring. A member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, she was also a 50-year member of the Crescent City Emblem Club. Dura, an avid bowler, was district Director (NorCal) for the California Women’s Bowling Association.
Later in life she took an interest in poker, especially Texas Hold ’Em, and spent much of her time playing in tournaments with friends who became her second family. Dura loved to play card games and anyone who knew Dura knew her sassy, quick-witted sense of humor. Her family always was a top priority in her life, spending lots of time and energy doing things to make them feel special.
Dura is survived by her sons, Dale Nations of Redding, Calif., and Rick Nations of Crescent City and grandchildren: Jeannie, Jackie, Joey, Tera, David, Lindsey, Cyndi, Trish, Debbie, Jason and Dane. She had numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel “Danny” Nations; her brother, Bill Dobbs; her sister, Imagene “Jean,” and her beloved daughter, Melva Jean Guardino.
Funeral services will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. with interment following at the Del Norte County Veteran’s Cemetery.
