Edith grew up on a cattle ranch in Vinton, Calif. She was the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Loyalton High School and Chico State College. She met and married Bonnie Baggett in Chico, Calif., while attending Chico State. They have been married for 63 years and raised four children.
Edith taught 2nd grade at Joe Hamilton Elementary School in Crescent City for 25 years. She was always trying new methods for teaching reading and math. She developed many interests by teaching science units in her class. She enjoyed taking her classes to the beach. She visited volcanoes and glaciers in California, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. She had an extensive collection of shells that she collected in Crescent City and Hawaii. She collected rocks from many diverse locations to show her classes. She liked studying space and traveled to Florida to see Cape Canaveral and bought a telescope to look at the stars. She received the Dedicated Service Award for teaching the year she retired.
She and her husband Bonnie were active in the Tsunami Sam’s Travel Club. She served as secretary for many years.
She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Edith was active in the Joe Hamilton PTA, serving as president for many years, and she received a PTA Honorary Service Award. She was also a 4-H leader for the 3 C’s Community Club that met at Joe Hamilton School in the ’60s.
