Betty was employed for over 40 years at Seaside/Sutter Coast Hospital, working in various departments from head of housekeeping to director of volunteers.
Generations of children knew Betty as Stocky the Clown who painted their faces at birthday parties, school events and community celebrations including Relay for Life.
A member of the Smith River United Methodist Church, Betty volunteered at the library and for many years was a Salvation Army bell ringer. As a member of numerous organizations, Betty remained active in the community, including providing holiday tray favors for the hospital and convelescent homes in both Brookings and Crescent City. Her beautiful handwriting made her a favorite for providing flyers and notices for events including the Coastal Aires and Coastal Classics Barbershop programs. Betty was a season ticket holder for DNACA, Lighthouse Repertory Theatre and the Community Concert Association and loved attending the performances with friends.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, Sept. 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Crescent Fire Protection District Fire Station, 255 West Washington Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s name to the Del Norte County Library, 170 Price Mall, Crescent City, CA 95531.
