Obituary: Elizabeth Mae Richmond Morrison (March 7, 1926 - Sept. 23, 2013)

Elizabeth Mae Morrison
Elizabeth Mae Morrison
Heaven gained another Angel September 23, 2013.

It is with great sadness that we lay to rest Elizabeth Mae Morrison of Smith River. She was born on March 7, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Harry Martin Richmond and Lucile Deakin. Elizabeth moved to Smith River in 1946, shortly after marrying Floyd Arthur Morrison on Dec. 30, 1945. They lived a happy life raising their two boys, Dale Richmond Morrison and Gary Leonard Morrison, on Floyd’s family’s land off of Fred Haight Drive. Elizabeth was a loving mother and active as a Cub Scout leader. She was also heavily active in the United Methodist Church of Smith River. Elizabeth worked for the Del Norte County School District for 22 years as the school secretary for Redwood Elementary, Lake Earl Elementary and finally at the Smith River School until her retirement in 1983. Once retired, Elizabeth greatly enjoyed spending time with family and traveling throughout the United States. Those lucky enough to have known Elizabeth would describe her as a devoted wife of 67 years, a guiding mother, loving sister, affectionate aunt, loyal friend, and doting grandmother of sixteen. To Elizabeth, once she met you, you were considered part of her family.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Floyd Arthur Morrison of Smith River; her sons, Dale (Barbara) of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Gary (Janet) of Central Point, Ore.; her sister Kathryn Williams of Crescent City; her grandchildren, Michelle (Keith) Millette, Melinda Carder, Sheryl (Robert) Gunter, Jon Andrews, and Andrea (Rich) Galvin; her great-grandchildren, Samantha, Brandon, Katie Beth, Katie Nicole, Adam, Kayla, Kiana, Christian, Tiara, and Ezra; and her great-great-grandchild, Micah. She is leaving behind a special family, Rick, Mercedes, and Savannah Bollinger. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and numerous church and community friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Mary Wilkins and Dorothy Hurlbert.

Elizabeth’s family extends a special thank you to her compassionate, caring, and loving caregivers: Mercedes, Sherri, Eloisa, Sue and Bill.

A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will take place at the Smith River United Methodist Church located at 121 Beckstead Street in Smith River on Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in her honor may be made to Smith River United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 810, Smith River, CA 95567.

Please sign the family’s online guest book at wiersmortuary.com.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel.
