Mackewicz
Florence Mackewicz passed away on May 3, 2014, in Crescent City. She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on March 19, 1925, to John and Margaret Schwartzer. Florence was the youngest of nine children. She graduated from Little Flower Academy High School in 1938. Florence met and married Stanley Z. Mackewicz Sept. 25, 1947. Together they moved to San Francisco. There they opened Florence’s Café. After she had her first child, she stayed at home to raise her family.Florence worked various jobs as her children grew older. She greatly enjoyed positions where she met the public as she was very friendly and outgoing. Florence had a job at the University Mound Ladies Home as a nurse’s aid. She had always wanted to be a nurse and enjoyed working there.

She and Stan retired to Loyalton, Calif., in 1981 after their last child went to college. Florence didn’t much like the country life after being a city girl for so long, but she made many friends and grew to love the area. Florence especially liked shopping in Reno, Nev., where she and her friends would often go. She spent lots of time in her garden making it exceptionally beautiful. In 2005, she moved to Crescent City to be near her daughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Sr. and son Martin and all her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children and their families.  Stanley Z. Jr. and Kathryn Mackewicz of Belmont, Calif.; Stephen J. Mackewicz of Greenbrae, Calif., and Sandra and William Anderson of Crescent City. Grandchildren Amy, Sara, Kelly, Jesse, Martin, Alexander and Joseph.
